Last day of deployment
Today is my last day working at the Dryden mill for the COE deployment. Me and Luis have spend the morning packing up all the equipment and making sure that everything that came is still here to be packed up.
We are heading out for lunch at Restaurante an Italian restaurant in town that has very good food. Then its a short afternoon at work and then home to the hotel to take a nap before guins party.
Last night was very good, Cathy and I went to the lodge and lobster and steak and desert… I was so full after. I wont say how beautiful Cathy looked because I wouldn?t want to embarrass her.

My review of Gmail
This is a very well done email service. As usual google has though out just about everything having to do with email and with the bandwidth issues of a web based email service. Almost everything takes less than a few seconds to load because everything is very simply done, on the surface. Once you get into Gmail you find that a lot of work has been put into the design of this service.
The biggest bonus (especially to me) is the spell check feature. Hotmail takes you to a separate page where you correct the words one by one, this works great for an application running on your desktop but if its a large email on the web it can take quite sometime to go through the whole thing. Gmail, you hit the spell check and in a few seconds all misspelled words are high lighted in red on the same web page that you typed it in. Then if you click on one of the red words a menu of all possible spellings pops up. Very fast very efficient. I like.
A second thing is that this service has no folders. At all. Instead they have what?s called labels. You can create labels in the menu and then attach them to the email. Then you can sort them by labels, the advantage to this is that unlike a folder you can put multiple labels on any given email. Like having the same file in 2 different places, but only having one file. Once you get used to it really works well.
Add this to the fact that google has incorporated their award winning search engine into its email service you can search your emails and find the one you want in the possible thousands that can be stored with this amount of space.
So far Gmail has two thumbs up from me.

I HAVE GMAIL!!!
Oh yes that’s right, one of the most talked about services on the net is now mine! Mwahahahah.
Incase you haven’t heard or don’t know what Gmail is I will fill you in. Gmail is a new service that is offered free by google. It is an email service that offers 1 GIG (1000 MB) of space for free, yes you read right FREE. It is still in the testing stage and is only offered to a few groups at this time. Members of blogger.com (my old blog site) were just offered to sign up if they wished… so I did. My email address there is dave.straley(@)gmail.com (I had to break it up to keep from getting spamed but dont use brackets when emailing me). I am going to test it out and see how it works and also read up on the service and see where the catch is. So for the time being you can send mail to my new account, that way I wont have to delete anything!!! I’m such a packrat.
Oh and people that are seen writing to people that already have the service will be among the first to be invited next for their own account. So email me and you might get yours soon too!

Fun day!
This is going to be a really fun day… well for work at least. I have one whole computer to finish off today and pretty much nothing else to do. Just for comparison I have done over 10 computers in one day… so I have a bit of time on my hands. : P
Oh and I am still in the process of fixing up my website, so if something all of a sudden doesn?t work then its just me messing with it. I think I am done with most of the layout of the website so there shouldn?t be anymore major glitches. From now on it?s going to mostly be adding content onto the different sections. So check it out if you want and see what pops up.
From tonight on my time is pretty much booked up. Tonight Cathy is taking me out to the lodge, (most expensive restaurant in town) I have been really looking forward to it. Tomorrow after work we are having a Birthday party at Guins house so that sounds like it will be a good time. Then Saturday we are going out to Amy?s for a fire party! Well they have some brush that needs burned off… but hey fire is fire. Some time in there I have to get my laundry done, and get packed up for leaving for Grand Prairie on Sunday. One good thing is that the flight doesn?t leave until 3:30 in the afternoon so I don?t have to get up super early to make the 3-hour drive to catch the flight.

Fly Me to the Moon
Yah I don?t really listen to Frank Sinatra but a clip from his song is in a video clip I just watched. Plus I just got my flight plans for the weekend… so it seemed fitting. Turns out that I will be leaving Winnipeg Sunday afternoon and arriving Grande Prairie at about 8 that night. Ohh what fun. I am going to miss Cath.. I mean Dryden. *ahem* So how about them Dodgers… ![]()
Things are going to be pretty slow at work for the next couple of days. We have finished all the computers that need to be done, the next 2 days are to help out with any problems that come up. I don?t think there will me many since most have already been worked out over the past 3 weeks.
I should be finished my map by this weekend for WC3 and I will put it on the Internet. Then its to my next map that I have a pretty good start on. Should be able to start testing it next week sometime, if I find the time. I should have more time once I leave Dryden, boredom here I come.
